Message from Andreu Mas-Colell
It is a pleasure to present to you the second issue of the on-line newsletter The Catalan Economy. Although full consolidation cannot be claimed until a longer series is available, we are confident that this second issue puts us well into the way.
In this issue you will find reports and analysis on a couple of topical, but important matters: the recently added new conditionalities for the availability of liquidity to the autonomous communities in general, and Catalonia in particular, and the accounting decision of Eurostat to include a number of public - private structured payments for investments executed previously to 2013 in the public expenditure account for the year 2015. Let me add that, as it could not be otherwise, information about them has been in the public domain and fully known by the Spanish Government. We have informed EU authorities about this.
We also present some information and a discussion of the main characteristics of the Spanish financing model for its autonomous communities, currently pending revision. We conclude with some news concerning foreign investment in Catalonia and, as in the previous issue, the evolution of macroeconomic variables.
