The awards are organised by the European Commission and they select good practices by governments in the use of Information and Communication Technologies. In this third edition, 311 projects were entered, of which 53 finalists were chosen in four themes. ("Better public services for growth and jobs", "Participation and transparency", "Social impact and cohesion", and "Effective and efficient administration").
The jury's decision will be made public on 20th September during the Ministerial e-Government Conference, to be held in Lisbon from 19th to 21st September, with the title "Reaping the Benefits of eGovernment". The finalist projects will be shown at a trade fair to favour the dissemination of good practices, with the aim focused on achieving the objectives of the European Commission's i2010 Initiative for an information society for growth and employment.
There will also be a fifth prize for the "Most inspiring Good Practice" which will be awarded by popular vote on the Internet.
