The engineering work consists in lowering the current Rodalies tracks to situate them at the same level as the Metro tracks, which will permit continuity to the vestibule, currently designed in two heights, with the aim of taking better advantage of this space.
The new 200 m central platform will be slightly curved and will have a width of approximately 6 m, which will permit a safe and fluid influx of passengers. Access to the platforms will be by means of fixed steps and escalators and also accessible lifts. There will be an emergency exit in the central part.
The construction process of the extension of the roof structure and the lowering of the tracks at the new Sagrera-Meridiana Rodalia station is carried out by means of pillars and micro pillars. Open air excavation will later take place to configure the top beam which will be constructed in the shape of a box. Once contention of the walls and roof has been completed, the tunnel and the excavation will be demolished.
With regards the superstructure, concrete slab track will be placed which will permit a reduction in vibration and noise and is ideal for tunnel areas, and rigid catenary, also more suitable for use in tunnels. The communications and signals cabling will also be replaced.
