Desalination is one of the axes of the water policy initiated by the Government of the Generalitat. It is one of the most efficient solutions for dealing with the current lack of resources and for guaranteeing the supply of water for the future.

The Llobregat desalination plant will be, after the month of July, the second installation of this type to enter into service.

Thus, the progressive activation of three desalination plants (Llobregat, Foix and Tordera 2) and the extension of the current desalination plant in Tordera, will enable the gradual and joint contribution of up to 200 cubic hectometres of new recourses in the mid term, by around 2015.
